Our History

Our friendly team welcome you to enjoy the warmth and character of the historical Red Barn. Originally built at the turn of the century as a livery stable where stage coaches and traders could exchange their horses for their long journey's across the greater Waikato. Located on a picturesque 500 acre working dairy farm, The Red Barn has spectacular views overlooking the Kaimai Ranges, Mount Maungatautari and the Hinuera Valley. Today, The Red Barn showcases the best of New Zealand cuisine and country hospitality.


Lance and Bridgette O’Sullivan are the proud owner operators of The Red Barn function venue at Karapiro, South of Hamilton. Bridgette is hands on in the running of The Red Barn and is very passionate about the quality of service provided to the guests, and has an eye for style, sophistication and detail. The venue has quality facilities and there are a variety of ways to use the venue and it's surrounding spaces to suit your group. The Red Barn has been operating as an event venue since 2008 and we feel privileged to be a part of many visitors to the Waikato Region.

Head Chef Leith Davidson

Leith has a passion for taking simple ingredients and creatively turning them into taste sensations without complicating things along the way. His favourite saying we often here in the kitchen is "it's all about the love". Leith has been head Chef at The Red Barn for over 3 years and loves the daily challenge of making every event an unforgettable experience. Leith has been in the hospitality industry since leaving school, starting his career as an apprentice at the Hermitage, Mount Cook. He has worked in large international hotel chains, privately owned restaurants, and catering companies, and is very proud to have been associated with numerous award-winning restaurants in Australia and New Zealand. Leith is married and has a young family, a lifestyle balance is very important to him, so decided to return home to New Zealand and settle down. He loves the Waikato and the variety of products available in the area from many local producers. You will often see him down at the farmers markets finding new and interesting products to incorporate into his menus.
